Our Family History
Alfred Fischer Winery was founded in 1931 by Alfred Fischer (1895-1977). Since 1931, Alfred Fischer has served in various restaurants in Vienna, and since 1964 he has worked in the catering industry in his family's nearby shop. Alfred Fischer, born in 1946, gradually took over the management of the winery from his father, running it independently in 1965. In the 1970s, when the change to 2 litre bottles was made, the wines were still stored in wooden barrels. In the 1970s, a larger bottling plant was acquired and the warehouse was expanded. In 1984 a large building was built. Since Alfred Fischer Jr. took over the commercial duties and the business, it has grown fivefold.
In 1996, the Fischer family founded a winery in Hungary, located in Kisapati, at the foot of the Szent-György Hill, near Lake Balaton. The new winery covers 80 hectares and has won numerous international awards, confirming the Fischer family's consistent quality philosophy. Alfred Fischer's sons, Thomas Fischer and Alex Fischer, are the 3rd generation to work in the winery, passing on the family tradition and expertise.
The Fischer family has strong Hungarian roots and the Styrian region was part of Hungary before Trianon. Before the Treaty of Trianon, the territories of present-day Austria and Hungary were more closely linked, and the Fischer family's history is based on this historical background.
